People affected by Ataxia may experience problems with using their fingers and hands, arms or legs, walking, speaking, swallowing, or moving their eyes.<\/span><\/p>

Many\u00a0types of\u00a0Ataxia\u00a0are caused by a genetic mutation that is\u00a0passed on\u00a0from parents to their children.\u00a0However, in some cases, people with a clear family history of Ataxia symptoms receive negative genetic testing results. This means that their type of Ataxia is not caused by currently\u00a0<\/span>known<\/span><\/i>\u00a0ataxia genetic mutations. People in this scenario are given a diagnosis of\u00a0Unknown Ataxia with Family History. Other\u00a0terms for\u00a0Unknown Ataxia with Family History\u00a0include SCA type Unknown, Cerebellar Ataxia,\u00a0Idiopathic Late-Onset Cerebellar Ataxia\u00a0(ILOCA), or Olivopontocerebellar\u00a0Atrophy (OPCA).\u00a0This\u00a0unknown\u00a0diagnosis may change over time, as new ataxia genes are\u00a0discovered\u00a0and more genetic testing options become available worldwide.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>
